Walk Into The Gym
STATUS
I’m still making this app, but it will eventually be released on Google Play and the App Store. I needed to make this website to start a business so that I can release it when I’m done.
INTRODUCTION
The idea behind this app is that you should be able to just walk into the gym and have a workout ready for you. Some general rules about the app:
- I am not a medical professional. Ask a doctor or a trainer for advice before starting any rigorous exercise program. Always listen to your body over the app. If you think you might hurt yourself trying to meet targets from the app, don’t. Just try to beat your record next time.
- You may not use this app to beat yourself up emotionally. If you are in the gym, you are trying, and that counts for something. The app is designed to help you execute the principle of progressive overload, but if you’re not making as much progress as you think you should be, adjust your expectations and love yourself where you are. You’ll make a lot of incremental progress over time, don’t stress about it.
- You have to configure the app based on what kind of workouts you want to do. It will handle everything from single exercises to full periodization, and the default configuration should be pretty good. I like it anyway. Once it’s configured, it provides variation within certain guardrails. So it will give you different assemblies of exercises, sets, and reps, but it won’t suggest new exercises, for example.
- If you miss a workout, don’t go back to the beginning of a week, just pick up where you left off. In other words, if Monday is leg day, but you miss it, just do leg day the next time you are in the gym, don’t skip leg day and move on to the next workout. The app makes it really easy to keep track of which workouts you need to do, and you just do them in order.
